Advantages of solar road studs

Solar road studs have been found to be an economical alternative to expensive street lighting. The use of LED lighting is advantageous as they are long-lasting, energy efficient, cool, emit minimal ultra-violet light and are mercury free (Holdridge, 2012).

Solar road studs increase the safety for road users by enhancing drivers’ ability to discern/ navigate danger zones much earlier than with the use of traditional road studs. This is enhanced by the fact that solar road studs come in a variety of colours which can be used to discern various dangers along the road.For example, red or amber lights can be used to discern sharp bends or areas where overtaking is not advised, while white lights are used for relatively safe section.
